ACCLIMATIZATION SOCIETY.
? A meeting of the council of this society f«i held yesterday, at their room in the Mechanics' Institute, at 2 p.m. The following wero present: ~ Messrs Davie (chairman), Hislop, Murray-Ayusley, Oakden, Johnson, Robinson. Lee, Hill, and Gould.
/The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
The balance-sheet was road, by which it appeared that there was a balance of £Bl 9a 6d in favour of the society, tho receipts bolni* XICS 10s sd, and tho expenditure being £B4 Ob lid.
The following now members have joined the society :—Messrs S. C. tfarr, J. E. Woodford, J. It. Steel, C. E. Morley, J. S. Williams, A, Fussell, and S. Sprlgg. The annexed is a list of the contributions recuivoii :—Cuttings of alder from Mr Hlßlop, and five specimens of tho native blight-bird from Master Soaroll. A lettor was read from Dr Muellor,of Melbourne, acknowledging the receipt of lomo native seeds, including those of tho Pittotporum, The following letter has been received from Mr Snrigg, the secretary of the Melbourne Acclimatization Society:— I bo? to aoknowledgo tho receipt of your letter of tho 3rd Init,, containing a post-offlco ordor for tho sum of £6. I regret to inform you that the Brittany bull you refer to has boen sold. It wm of a very good stock, having been imported by Mr Mickinnon, At present I liavo not heard uf any other, although I have advortiaed in the Argut, I will, however, be on tho look-out. I havo not beon able to procure any hickory nuti, but this I havo not yet muoh inquired about, We shall be glad to receive the kakat or swamphens here, a« curiosities, whon you can send them. Tho whitebait wo have, but we are vory desirous of getting a large quantity of tho ra(iin#ri« ijiiV«/i»ilyoucansparoit,
On the motion of Mr Hirx, it was decided ■■That his Honor tho Superintendent should bo requested to communicate with the Gcnoral Government, requeuing the latter to
appoint a ranger-say the Inipectorof Police. under the" Imported Birds Act.'" Borne conversation took place with rote, cncei to obtaining the salmon and troit. The Bbcrbtaht stated that the preparations for the reception of the fish were nearly completed. ' The meeting shortly after broke up.
