LATEST TELEGEAMS.
[by submabine telegraph,] ■Wellington, Feb. 23,7.16 p.m. The Southern Cross states that claims of friendly natives to land in the Waikato have been sent to the Native Lands Court. These claims exceed in extent the area confiscated, and cover all the blocks open for sale on March 12. Mr Whitaker has gone to the "Waikato to satisfy himself as to the validity of these claims. In their present aspect they can only be regarded as likely to prove an insuperable obstacle to a successful sale being held on the advertised day.
