THE WAIPARA ROAD BOARD.
TO TIIE EDITOR OF THE LTTTELTON TIMES. Sir, —Had Mr. Rich confined himself to the truth in his replies to a few questions put by me as to the doings of the Waipara Road Board, I should not again have troubled you on the subject Mr. Rich says, Mr. Lance did call a meeting. 1 as distinctly state that he did not, and as meetings of that kind are always called by
advertisement, a reference to the newspapers of the period will show whether Mr. Rich or Querist is right. I believe Mr. Lance candidly admits that in the hurry of other business he forgot all about the meeting. Again Mr. Rich says the Engineer did not
act as assessor. A reference to the minuu book of the Board would have nettled thai point at once; but I find the minute book ho! disappeared at this particular juncture. Two out of three members, however 0 t the Board, who were at the meeting wW Mr. Rich received his appointment,' affirm that he was appointed to act as engineer and assessor. I believe I was in error as to the sum one of the ratepayers would save by not colleV ing the rateinstead of .£2BO, it should hav* been about £380. I need not encroach further on your gr )ar ,. by noticing tb* other parts of Mr. Riph',' letter. 8 Yours, &c., QUERIST
