WjE congratulate Mr. Moorhouse on having received the unsolicited support of tli?si'working men' of ChristchurcK and -jfcne neighbourhood, as a candidate for the Superintendence. At a thronged meeting on Tuesday evening, a resolution approving of Mr. Moorhouse a« more worthy of confidence than Mr. Lance or Mr. Travers was carried. It is true that the majority was but small; but then the minority was formed out of the junction of both the opposing parties, each of which had at a previous meeting sustained a crushing defeat. The supporters of Mr. Lance and Mr. Travers, having been left in a minority when proposing each their own candidate to the "Working Men's Association, did their very utmost on Tuesday evening to muster against Mr. Moorhouse, and by joining their forces to put him also in a minority ; and they used every means which the rules of a public meeting would permit to procure his defeat. But they were unsuccessful. We may fairly say that in the opinion of the working men Mr. Moorhouse is not only preferable either to Mr. Lance or Mr. Travers, but is worthy of more support than both of them together. And yet Mr. Moorhouse has never appealed to the working men with a cry; he has never divided class against class, or done less justice to the capitalist than to the labourer. The feeling in his favour does not arise from any such partial view of his conduct. He has been Superintendent of the province, and he has upheld the interests of all classes. IJnder his rule the prosperity of the whole province was such as to benefit capitalist and working man equally, provided they were real settlers in the province,- and neither class has forgotten the ability which he showed in achieving success for both. If there were a " Capitalists' Association" in existence we are confident it would arrive at the same decision as the Working Men's Association has announced.
