TAILORS' WAGES.
TO THE EWTOR OF THIS LYTTELTON TIMKS. Sin,—ln answer to "Master Tailor's" letter, which appeared in your issue of Jan. 9, we beg to inform him that he makes statements without foundation, as we shall prove by extracts taken from the Christchurch ano Dunedin scale of price#. We subjoin a few extracts of the prices paid in both places tor plain work, and we are prepared to show a greater difference if we take the extra work into consideration. Coats. Christ church, Dunedin. Dress coat, 30s. ... 36s Business sac, 17a •• Lady's habit, 39s ••• Vests. Plain vests, 8s ... TaoiTSEKS. Plain trousers, 10s ... 13s 6d We think that these examples will suffice to move that" Master Tailor" makes a very rash statement when he says " that the pay is considerably hitther here than in any other pro▼inceof Uie Australian colonies.'' We are prepared with further evidenceofthefactsw estate, •and we c'-allenge « Master Tailor » to nmintain the position he has taken ; for if he does not know the prices paid in the next.town to that he lives in, we may well doubt knowledge of the Auslraliau colonies or of Poole fl. In conclusion, we beg the reader of this not to draw the inference from this discussion that the journeymen tailors are dissatisfied with the prices paid here. Yours, &c., JOURNEYMEN TAILOR&.
