Sib, —"Will you permit me to explain a str.ement made in your issue of the 20th instant. w.th reference to a meeting held at Saltwater Creek, to favour the return of Mr. Lance as a member the above district? A motion was put and carried at that meeting to form a committee to secure the return o: JL-. Lance; and in mv absence my name was, without mj£permission, placed on that committee. Iwould take this opportunity of expressing; sy indignation at such conduct as this; as some of the members of Mr. Lance's committee were a**re that I was on Mr. Maskell's committee, and I iuJ personally requested my name to be struck oti MrLance's list previous "to this report being pwlished.
