KAIAPOI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The Council held their usual fortnightly meeting in the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening last. All the members present except Messrs. W. C. Beswick and G. F. Day. Dr. Dudley in the chair.
The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Clerk read his fortnightly report, in which he stated that the artesian well in Cookson street had been sunk to a depth of 122 feet. The lamp for the bridge would be erected on Wednesday. The swing bars across the bridge, to prevent accidents when the swing was open, had been fixed, in conformity with the instructions from the Council, by Mr. Gunn. Mr. Stevens is proceeding satisfactorily with the repairs in Beswick and Sewell streets. The following documents were then read:— A letter from Captain Gibson, the Port Officer, acknowledging letter from the Council respecting the river, and informing them that it should have his earliest attention. A letter from Mr. W. Wilson, M.P.C., enclosing copy of a letter addressed by him to the Secretary for Public Works, respecting the sum of money voted for alterations at the Court-house. The Clerk was directed to acknowledge receipt of the same. Three tenders for laying pipes to convey the sur-face-water from the artesian well in Charles street on to the river bank, near the old ferry, for the use of the inhabitants of Charles streetJ. 1 Hadley, £35 ; Henry Middleton, £29 14s 4d ; Joseph Keetley, £15 10s. It was then resolved that J. Keetley's tender of £15 10s should be accepted, and that the Chairman should appoint the time for laying the pipes. It was also resolved that the Coroner should have the use of the Council Chamber for holding inquests.
The Council then adjourned until Tuesday, 13th June.
