Arrival of the Queen.— This steamer arrived from Northern ports on Tuesday, at 2.15 p.m., after a favourable passage from Wellington. The news of the probable loss of the fine paddle steamer City of Dunedin, off Wellington, cast a general gloom amongst the inhabitants in Lyttelton and Christchurch. Our office, in port, was soon filled with anxious enquirers; but, with the exception of what was currently reported and printed in the New Zealand Advertiser of the 25th. and the Evening Post of the 29th, it was impossible to gratify those seeking further information.

The Fine Screw Steamer Tararua arrived at Lyttelton about 9.30 yesterday morning, from Dunedin, having left the latter port at 1.30 on Tuesday. Experienced fine weather during the passage. The N.Z.S.N. Co's Steamer Lady Bird, Captain Eenner, arrived from Dunedin yesterday, at 4.30; she left Port Chalmers on the 30th, at half-past three. Had fine weather during the whole of the passage down.

The Steamer New Zealand was advertised to leave Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, for Dunedin; but, from some cause or other, she had not sailed late in the evening. The Wild Wave, brig, sailed for Sydney yesterday, at 2 o'clock p.m. The Barque Kachel, Captain Brodie, left for Callao, with a light wind from west and ebb tide, early on Tuesday morning, and by noon was out of sight. DANGERS ON THE EAST CAPE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sir, —Will you be good enough to take notice of a rock (not before known) in the passage usually taken by the steamers rounding the East Cape. The s.s. Queen grazed the above at 1 a.m. of the 25th May. It bears west, one cable's length from the island, with 12 feet of water on it. Two miles north of this the Beautiful Star struck on a rock, and had to return to Auckland; and Capt. Deck, of the St. Kilda, reports another, half a mile north of the island, proving the whole neighbourhood of the East Cape dangerous. I am, &c., W. G. CELLEM, Master, s.s. Queen. HEATHCOTE. ARRIVED.
