CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.

Monday, February 1. The Council met at the usual hour. Present: All the members. The Chairman in the chair. The report of the City Surveyor, and that of the Inspector of Nuisances, were read. It was decided that tenders be invited for metalling Kilmore street, from the Papanui road to Cranmer Square, with twenty yards of gravel to the Ch lt'was determined that tenders should be called for, for placing twenty yards of gravel on Montreal street, from St. Asaph street to the South lown Belt. . . , It was resolved that previous to giving assent to the inhabitants of the city to construct tanks under the foot-way for the reception of house-slops, the surveyor be directed to report the application to the Council, with a view to the further consideration of'the subject. . „ s „i It was decided that the attention of the Provincial Government should be drawn to the state of the slaughter-yards at the Sand-hills, and to the extent of refuse lying there. The Council suggests that persons using the same, should be compelled to bury the refuse in the same manner and under similar regulations as laid down by the Council for the guidance of their contractor. It was resolved that the ratepayers roll, when received by the Surveyor, shall be referred to the assessors, Messrs. Thomson and Johnstone, with a request that they will return the same to the Council at their earliest convenience. . It was decided that the plan of the mght-soil-pans,

as recommended by the committee, be adopted, viz., that they be made of galvanised iron, and forthwith ordered from England.

The Chairman announced that Mr. »W. I). Barnard had offered a carriage and six for the use of the Council, in order that the All England Eleven might he received in a becoming manner. The liberal offer of Mr. Barnard was acccpted with thanks, and the Council adjourned until Saturday next at three p.m.
