TO THE ELECTORS OF LYTTELTON. GENTLEMEN, —Understanding that Mr. Rowland Davis is about shortly to retire from the position of your representative, I hasten to announce my desire to occupy the seat when vacant. My long connection with the Port Town and the intimate acquaintance which exists between myself and nearly all the electors, renders it hardly necessary to enter into a lengthened explanation of my views on the present occasion, but either when canvassing you personally or at the hustings I shall be happy to answer all questions. In the meantime, I have the honor to be, Your faithful servant, 525 c 11. P. MURRAY-AYNSLEY. TO THE ELECTORS OF LYTTELTON. GENTLEMEN— You did me the honour some few years since of electing me one of your Representatives in the Provincial Council of this Province. The requisition which I have just received (signed as it is by so many of my fellow townsmen) convinces me that during the period I held that honorable position you were satisfied that I did my duty. The circumstances which led me to retire at the last general election having been remored, I feel that I cannot consistently refuse the request of again allowing myself to be put in nomination to fill the vacancy occasioned by the retirement of Mr. Rowland Davis. The procrastination shown in the prosecution of the public works of this port, so urgently required for the increasing Commerce of the Province; the neglect of the Sumner road, to make which large sums have been voted, to render it (until the tunnel is completed) the only safe means of land conveyance between the port and the Plains, demand more than ordinary energy on your part to amend. Gentlemen—l dislike pledges. Vote for the man you consider lias your local interest at heart! I have some stake of my own in the province, and am prepared to record my votes in the Council (if returned) for its progress. If requisite, I shall be happy to meet my fellowelectors with any of the other candidates who may appear. I have the honor, gentlemen, to remain, Yours obediently, E. A. HARGREAVES. Lyttelton, January 30, 1864. c 710 TO THE ELECTORS OF THE HEATHCOTE DISTRICT. GENTLEMEN,— Having received a requisition, signed by a great number of Electors of the Heathcote District, inviting me to become a candidate for the seat vacated by Mr. Wilkinson, I have great pleasure in consenting to your request, and I trust that, if elected, my services may be useful to you and the Province generally. Before the day of nomination, I shall endeavour to call upon every Elector to offer full explanations of my views on all such questions of public interest as are within my knowledge. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your very obedient servaut, c 578 (Signed) W. S. MOORHOUSE. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE WAINUI DISTRICT. FEELING I am unable to attend to your interests in Council in the way I should wish, I resign my seat. Thanking you for the honor I have received, I remain, Yours truly, 672 GEORGE HAYLOCK.
