FELLOW SETTLERS, —A vacancy having occurred by the resignation of your representative in the Provincial Council, Mr. R. H. Rhodes, I now beg to offer myself as a candidate for that office. If I have the honor of being returned by you I shall dilligently watch over your interests in the Council; but,in order that as your representative I may. be enabled effectually to advance those interests, it is important that I should reccive full statistical information relative to the different districts, and especially that bearing upon the subjects of education and roads, which are sure to occupy much of the attention of the Council during its next session, and in which I conceive you are most deeply interested. "VTOTICE is hereby given, that this Company havX\ ing been incorporated, and the first allotment of shares contemplated by the prospectus made, a CALL of £2 10s per SHARE is required from the allottees, which they are directed to pay to the credit of the Company at the Bank of New Zealand, in Christchurch or at Kaiapoi, on or before Friday, the 15tli May next, and shares will be issued to them at the office of the Company in exchange for the Bank receipts. lam further directed to give notice, that as the amount of subscriptions already made fully warrants the Company in proceeding to carry out its objects, a general meeting of the subscribers will take place at Cameron's Hotel, Saltwater Creek, on Wednesday, the 20th of May, for the appointment of directors and considering the future proceedings of the Company, when all shareholders and persons desirous of promoting the early accomplishment of the Company's project are requested to attend. lam also to notify that as none but qualified shareholders can take part in the proceedings of that meeting, the calls must be previously paid, and all persons desirous to become subscribers must forward their applications for shares to the Secretary by the 30th of April instant, in order to become qualified. NOTICE is hereby given that John Ellson Brown, of the South Bank of the Rakaia, in the Province of Canterbury, New Zealand, accommodation house keeper, hath, by deed bearing date the 16th day of April now instant, conveyed and assigned all his freehold and leasehold property, wheresoever situate, and all the personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever of him the said John Ellson Brown, unto James Drummond Macpherson, of Christchurch, in the said province, merchant, and Edwin Burnell, of Christchurch, aforesaid, commission agent, upon trust for the equal benefit of themselves and such other of the creditors as should come in and execute the said deed within three calendar months from the date thereof.

Notice is also given that the said deed of assignment, duly executed by the said John Ellson Brown, James Drummond Macpherson, and Edwin Burnell' and duly attested by Francis Slater, solicitor, Christchurch, and Joshua Cuff, articled clerk, Christchurch now lies at the office of the undersigned for the inspection and execution of the creditors of the said John Ellson Brown; and such of them as shall neglect or refuse to execute the said deed within the time aforesaid will be excluded from all benefit that may arise therefrom.
