LYTTELTON.
CHURCH SCHOOL EXAMINATION. On Monday last, the 15th instant, the Midsummer Examination of the pupils attending the Church of England School was held in the School-room Oxford-street. The attendance of the friends to education (in the evening especially) was numerous and the proceedings appeared to "be watched with deep interest. On tliis occasion the examination of the classes were conducted by the Rev. F. Knowles Wm. Donald, Esq., R.M., and Mr. Thos. M. Gee. ' It was originally the intention of the Lord Bishop of Christchurch to have been present but he was unavoidably prevented. The number of prizes awarded amounts to twenty six. Many of the pupils, during a rigid examination, acquitted themselves with evident satisfaction to all present, and considering that Mr. Ward has only had the children under his charge for a few months, the progress made in the school since last examination will give him hope to persevere in his labors to make this institution one of the best commercial schools in the Province.
