COMMERCIAL.

A CHKISTCIIURCH. Messrs. Luck and Clark report tho following sales :-Two quarter-acre section, of land with small house thereon, suuatol ia'Gashel streot, adjoining the Union Bank ot Australia, for the tiumof also, 1 lot of town reserve, No.-6,' containing 4 acres 1 rood and 30 poles of laud, in St. Asaph street, for tho sura of otago. , There is very little matter of interest to record this week past; we have no further news from Melbourne, and the northern mail by the Whito Swan, now overdue, has not arrived. Two vessels from London are now also overdue and may be daily expected. . ■ ' , ' Business continues in the same stagnant state-that weliave noticed for some while past, transactions being confined to the most limited parcels for pressing.wants. There is a little better feeling in flour, of which stocks are rather low ; but as supplies are known to be on the way from' Adelaide, any great rise in; value cannot be expected, first brands may be quoted at jflß 10s to jfl9- Butter is better supplied; small parcels are dropping in from Tasmania. . ' There have been one or two meetings.of creditors of traders in difliculties,' and it is quite likely that the dull' times and the stringency of the money market may cause otherd 'to follow. The want of an insolvency law is much felt, as all'must have foreseen it wouldbe, immediately that any embarrassments occurred. In the Resent state of things there is no protection for the unfortunate but honest debtor,-whilst every, opportunity is afforded to the rogue to defraud his creditors. How trade in New Zealand, limited" as it has been, could have flourished so many years in,the absence.of so necessary an arbiter in monetary affairs, is hard to judge; but that the present extent of market, transactions and our commercial credit system urgently need immediate legislation on this subject, none can deny or. question.—'' Daily Times,' June 7. t i DUNEDIW LIVE STOCK MARKET. Driver, Maclean & Co. report very little change during the past week. As usual, all the lots offered at the yards were taken at quotations as below. ' Fat Cattle.—The yards have been better supplied this week snd we scarcely realized last week's prices. We quote best bullocks at from jtf 24 to .£26; middling ditto, to j?2O ; inferior ditto, to ,eU; best cows, j6"10 to ; middling to jtflfi;, inferior.ditto, JTIO to Jt 14. Small lots of really prime heavy weight cattle would, we think; exceed these prices. Fat calves rather scarce, and in good, demand, at from 10s to if 4 ,10s. Store cattle , are much inquired after, and good lots very saleable. We have sold 500 head of mixed cattle;- deliveredat Oamaru, 5s per; head; also a.few small lots near town, at from Jrlp—according to age and quality; ; r ■ Dairy cows are wanted, at from jt l sto £20. ' Fat Sheep.—Good quality heavy weight wethers are scarce, ; and saleable at 7d per lb. We have disposed of 1000 head at that price. - . Btore Sheep.—But few offering. Good wethers or maiden ewes are very saleable. Station Property.—One or two runs have changed bands during the week, terms private but very satisfactoi^,,— Daily Times, July 5.. " ADELAIDE. ' Grain a,nd Floui:'—Recent advices from Adelaide mention thefollowing'heavy shipments of flour to New Zealand;' —Mandarin, 350 tons; ; Ann Jane; 350 tons ; Isis, 300 tons; Colchester, 220 tons ; Glencnne, 500 tons; Margaret Thompson, 240 tons. The two last had sailed, the others; ; were loading. The total quantity pf flour on the way from Adelaide to this colony is, therefore, 1960 tons Heavy shipments had also been made from Adelaide for England, the Cape, Hong Kong, and Colombo. The price is not quoted. ■ TASMANIA. Hobart Town.'—The papers of 24th June quote wheat, at 4s. 6d. to 55., wtth. a . moderate demand. Flour is quoted at jf 12 to according to the mills, with a fair demand, mostly, confined to town orders. -• ? , . Launceston papers of the 25th June state that the transactions in flour and grain have been very limited! Flour, j£ 10 to jfln 10s. Wheat, 4s 4d.; Oats, 4s. tid. to 4s. 9d.
