PROVINCIAL SECRETAR Y'S OFFICE, Christchurch, Jan. 18,1861. HIS HONOR the Superintendent directs it to be notified that, with the advice of the Executive Council, he has adopted the following Immigration Regulations, and further directs them to be published for general information. T. W. MAUDE, Provincial Secretary IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS. All persons desirous of obtaining assisted passages to the Province of Canterbury, in vessels under contract with the Provincial Government, niay receive assistance as follows:— 1. The Government will afford assistance equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by the passenger. If there shall be any balance, the Government will advance the sum, taking from the passenger promissory notes for the amount advanced, payable to the Treasurer of the Province. Such notes will be made payable on demand, but unless the passenger dispute the debt, or shall attempt to leave the Province, payment will only be required in sums of five pounds at a time, at periods of three months, until the whole debt is discharged. The first payment to be made six months after landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in England, or elsewhere, f to obtain assisted passages to the Colony may. do so by drawing a Bill to the order of the Provincial Treasurer, accepted by a substantial householder, also resident in the Province, to be approved of by the Superintendent as sufficient security for the same } this Bill may then be transmitted to the person who is desirous of emigrating to the Colony, and being by him presented to the Emigration Agent, will be received in lieu of cash payment, as hereinafter provided; the Bill will be re-transmitted by the Agent, to the Colony, and must be paid immediately on presentation. 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only to bond fide labouring men, mechanics, and female domestic servants; but persons of all classes will be able to assist their friends to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking the payment of the whole of the passage money in the manner above provided. 4. No person will be allowed any assistance unless he shall have been approved of by the Emigration Agent in England. No single man above the age of 40 years; no person above the age of 50, unless a member of a large family ; and no person above 60 years, under any circumstances, will be allowed assistance. 5. When Bills are tendered in payment as cash in England, the amount of assistance given by the Government will be one-half of the amount of such Bills. Persons therefore wishing to give their friends in England the utmost amount of assistance must give bills for two-thirds of the whole amount of the passage money. 6. The rate of passage money, inclusive of incidental expenses, to the colony is fixed until further notice, at £17, and all bills will be prepared in accordance with that rate. 7. Applications for assisted passages will be received at the Secretary's Office, in Christchurch, and at the Resident Magistrate's Office, in Lyttelton. 153 DISCOVERY OF GOLD! REWARD OF £1000. THE Provincial Government are prepared to offer, a reward .of £1000 tor the discovery of a Gold Field within the Province of Canterbury, subject to the following conditions : — 1. That the locality^vhere gold may be discovered shall beißasonably accessible from Christchurch. 2. That the payment of the said sum of £1000 shall be subject to the approval of the Provincial Council, and the decision of Mr. Haast, the Provincial Geologist, as to the paying capabilities and the extent of the field. METALLING ROAD TO SLAUGHTER YARDS. ff^HE Provincial Government, having accepted -*• the tender of John Foster for the earthwork on this road, are now prepared to receive further offers for metalling the same according to the specification at the office of the Provincial Engineer. The Government will not necessarily accept the lowest or any tender. Tenders to be sent in before noon on tlio 29th instant, addressed to the Provincial Secretary. THOS. W. Provincial Secretary's Office, April 9,1862. 1509 ~ PUBLIC NOTICE. ] NOTICE is hereby given that the Commissioners of the Waste Lands Board will sit at the Land Office, Christchnrch, on THURSDAY, the Ist day of May next, at 10 a.m. to receive Pasturage License Fees under the Land Regulations, of April Ist, 1856. Licensees of Runs between the Waitangi and the Rangitata who have not yet paid the cost of survey of their runs, will be required to pay 14s per 1000 acres, being the moiety of the cost of the survey of their runs ; and all Licensees are required to make returns of the stock on their respective runs for which printed forms may be obtained at the Land Office. By clause 51 of the Amended Land Regulations, Pasturage Licence Fees may be paid on any sitting day of the Board between the 20th of April and the Ist of May. By order of the Waste Lands Board.
