CHRISTCHURCH MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
This body held their usual weekly meeting on Monday evening. On the motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Grould, it was resolved to request Mr. Bray to act as one of the commissioners for reporting on the best means of removing the refuse, &c., from the city.
A discussion was taken on the motion of Mr. lieece, adjourned from the previous sitting, which resulted in the motion being withdrawn and another substituted; but that was negatived. * On the motion of Mr. Gould, seconded by Mr. Anderson, it Avas resolved "That the Town Surveyor do, Avith as little delay as possible, report upon the works recommended in the report of the committee on urgent works, stating the estimated cost and the most advantageous mode of executing the same; also, to furnish a general report containing some particulars upon other necessary works within the city, especially those connected with surface drainage ; also to report the staff and plant which he may consider necessary for the execution of such works as cannot be advantageously performed by contract." A resolution was passed making it imperative on holders of property to pay one-half of the expense of making footpaths, and one-third of the cost of other works, undertaken for their benefit. It was also resolved that the Papanui bridge should be at once repaired. It was resolved that Cashel street, from Aikman and Wilson's to Cook's corner, should be forthwith formed and metalled, on one-third of the cost of such work being paid to the clerk of the council. The other business was not of public interest.
