LYTTELTON MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The first meeting of the Council took place on Friday evening last, all the members attending with the exception of Mr. Hargreaves. The first business transacted was the election of a chairman, which resulted in the appointment of W. Donald, Esq., R.M. A sub-committee was oppoiuted consisting of Messrs, Aynsley, Peacock, Ballestiee and the Chairman, to frame bye-laws for regulating the future proceedings of the Council; to report to the next meeting. It was agreed to make provision to admit the public except when otherwise ordered. The meetings were arranged to be held on each Friday, at 7 p.m, in the Resident Magistrate's Court. The Chairman was authorised to request the Provincial Government" to place at the disposal of the Council the amount voted for its use, also the conveyance of the reserves agreed upon. It was agreed that the Overseer of the Prison Gang bo requested to place himself under the direction of the Municipal Council. A sub-committee was appointed to prepare a ratepayer' roll in accordance with Clause 10.
