RAILWAY WORKS.
To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sib—ln justice to Mr. Birdsey and satisfaction to the public, I beg to reply to a letter which appeared in your issue of Saturday last, by 'One of the Crowd,' which if allowed to pass unnoticed, is capable of doing considerable mischief, especially among the credulous and spiteful. The estimate of £25, which he and his numerous friends consider will be ample to cover the full amount of the damage done at the tent, on the turning of the first sod, shows that both he and friends must either have miscalculated the number of articles broken, or are totally unacquainted with the price of glass and earthenware in this colony ; and, as I suplied both on this occasion, I may be allowed to say that twice £25 will not compensate tor the breakage of these two articles alone, besides other losses which must be sustained from such an accident. Hoping the above is a sufficient apology for my troubling you. I am, sir, your obedient servant, c , ■ Tt C. PRINCE. Sydenham House, Colombo street.
