STREET OBSTRUCTIONS.

To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times,

Sir.—l avail, myself of your useful columns to warn the public of a dangerous grievance in the shape of a grip or small canal, which is open right across the Sumner road, between the shop of Mr. Thompkins, hairdresser, and that of Mr. Fisher, grocer, and by which I am a sufferer, as follows.

On returning from along journey yesterday, between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m., and having occasion to come round by the Sumner road, and being quite unaware that there was any impediment in the way, I was suddenly pitched out of the dray on my hip ; the wheel went over my leg and so seriously bruised me that I am prevented from following my business. I therefore venture to suggest that if the Government allow, or cause to be made, any obstacle on the public roads, that a signal lamp should be so placed as.to warn the unwary of their danger. I am, Sir, &c, &c.,

CHARLES JOHN PERCEVAL. Papanui, June 14, 1860.
