The Administration of Government.—Notwithstanding the fortnightly communication by steam between Auckland and all the provinces of New Zealand, it would seem as if the General Government did all in its power to keep up the feelr ing in the South; that Auckland could not be allowed to remain the seat of government for the

islands, as a government sitting there was too remote, to be acted ; upon by pub lie opinion ■in the ; South, and therefore might steadily ignore its interests. We could furnish several illustrations of; this remark, but two will suffice. Not a singlo Crown Grant sold in this Province ' has beon returned from Auckland since the middle !of June last, although; about three hundred : are lying there for the Governor's signature} while, for land subsequently sold in the Province of Marlborough, grants have been signed and returned. Our second illustration, is the case of the Electoral Roll for the District of Amuri, promised by Mr. TancrecL to be sent down from Auckland in the month of; November last, but which has never yet been furnished: and we find in consequence the Superintendent of Nelson refusing to issue a writ calling upon the electors of Amuri to fill up the I vacancy which has arisen- in the representation of \ their district. Had our member, Mr. Stafford, not ; been absent from the colony, we should, frpm the ■ position he fills in the Goyerninent, have held him ; responsible for these and other improper acts which ; the General Government has lately been guilty of; but it would be hardly fair to visit upon ; his; head the sins of his colleagues.— Nelson Examiner.
