Willis Gann and Cos. ships lindercohtract with the Provincial Government of this province,, arrived from London yesterday afternoon with a large living freight. .She has been 107 days out, having left Gravesend on the 30th November. ,: She .cleared the English channel without delay, but. met with rough "weather in the Bay of Biscay and made a long passage to the line. The voyage throughout has been characterized by bad .weather, especially-towards .the close, when constant gales and almost incessant rain have been experienced.': It will be seen by the subjoined melancholy list of deaths that the passage has not been jyithput casualty; indeed we haye never yet had v bo long a list to publish. It includes five adults, one of whom was a midshipman of the vessel. Of the twenty-eight children almost all perished from the" consequences of measles and hooping cough;'which unhappily prevailed at the commencement of the voyage.; During the past five weeks no disease has appeared on board. It is singular that during our hot dry weather both the Ambrosine and Clontarf ffhave reported gales of wind accompanied by drenching rain as having been experienced almost up to the coast. The Clontarf iscommanded on this'yoyagejb'y Captain A. W. Barclay, who is, ■we believe, one'of her owners, and also part owner of the Zeaiahdia. Doctor' Stone, the Surgeon Superintendent of the Clontarf, bears a high character with the passengers of whom he had charge for his assiduity and skill in endeavouring to stop the tide of'disease; but we regret to say that owing to his exertions his own health suffered so much* as to disable.him from performing his duties during the* latter part of the voyage, and when the ship came to, anchor he was unable to leave his cabin. The passengers have presented Captain Barclay with the fq)towjng;testimonials:— . J * .. ... ■ "Ship Clontarf, March 14,1860. i .■;. "To A; W. Barclay, Esq., Commander. "Dear Sir, —We the undersigned saloon passengers of the ship Clontarf, bound from the port of London to that of Lyttelton, N.Z., cannot take leave of you -without expressing thegreat regard we entertain for and the sympathy we feel toward you. '"Though adverse to a general system of testimonial letters on the conclusion of voyages, and judging you a man of too high a character to be anxiouss to receive any such from us, yet on this occasion we hope to be allowed to express the very great admiration your conduct during this trying voyage has:raised in us. ■"..Throughout this voyage, in misfortunes so unprecedented, your powers, both mental and physical, hayebeen severely tested; yet harrasse4 with severe weather,'worn out with anxiety for and attention to your 'emigrants, we have ever received at your hands the:greatest.kindness and consideration. i<lWe wish you a safe return home, and with every prayer for your-future happiness, we subscribe our- ■ selves ' • ; ;- • ■; - ■■::■■ '■ .; "Tours very sincerely."
