Business has been very quiet this week,-in consequence of the holidays and the usual festivities that take place at this time of the year.
On Monday, Messrs. R. J. Duncan & Co. sold by, Public Auction, at their stores, Auckland" flour at from £18 to XI9 per ton; biscuit, 20s. per cwt.; timber (kauri pine) 16s. to 20s. per 100 feet; case gin, 20s. per-case; half-cases do., 12s. do.; burton ale, £8 2s.' per hhd.; and.a: quantity of merchandise which realised fair' prices. - ' On Wednesday, Messrs. Johnson & Co. sold by public auction at their stores, 100. bags Mauritius sugar, from £58 to £59 per ton; -150 bags Porr Cooper oats, from 7s. 6d, to Bs. per bushel; 1000.bushels wheat from 7s. to Bs. per bushel; 10 tons Port Cooper flour, @" £18 per ton; 30 cases bottled brandy (duty paid) 345. per doz.; MarteU's brown brandy, 17.5. per gal. (in bond), withdrawn; BoothV old torn, ss. per gal. Preston & Co.'s brandy, 135., withdrawn; 3 qr.-casks whisky, 7s. 9d. to Bs. per gal.; 45 cases do., 165.; 5 do. old torn, 155.; common sherry,in hhds. and "qr.-casks (duty paid) 9sl; do. champagne, 375. 6d. per doz.; tobacco pipes, 3s. 9d. to 4s. per gross; 1 horse, £19, with sundries, the total amount realised being-nearly £1,000. The Mills.—Owing to the intelligence received per Dart,- "and the recent heavy importations, flour has again declined, and is now quoted as" follows:—Hour £19 per ton; wheat 7s. to 7s. 6d. per bushel; bran, Is. 6d. per bushel; pollard, 15s. per 100 fts.
