Provincial Secretary's Office. Christchurch, Dec. 21,1857. IMMIGRATION ' REGULATIONS. All persons desirous of obtaining assisted passages to the Province of Canterbury in vessels under contract with the Provincial •Government, may receive assistance as follows: — 1. The Government will'afforr 1 assistance equal in amount to the sum paid m cash b\ the passenger. If there shall be any balance, the Government will advance the sum, taking from the passenger promissory notes for the' amount advanced, payable to the Treasurer of the Province. Such notes will be made payable on demand, but, unless the passenger cispute the debt or shall attempt to leave the Province, payment will only be required in sums of five pounds at a time, at periods of thiee months, until the whole debt is discharged. The first payment to be made six months after landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in England, or elsewhere, to obtain' assisted passages to the Colony may do so by drawing a Bill to the order of the Provincial Treasurer, accepted by a substantial householder, also resident in the Piovince. to be approved of by the Superintendent as sufficient security to'the same ;• this Bill may then bs transmitted to the person who is desirous of'emigrating to';the ;Colony, and, being by hiim presented to the; Emigration Agent j will be received in lieu, of casK payment, as hereinafter provided; the Bill will be re-transmittedr by- the, Agent to ' the Colony, and must be paid immediately on presentation. .. .1 i- ;-.•: j- i 3.
