•"' ** : : PROCLAMATION. By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, &c, &c, &c. WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Governor of New Zealand with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council, Session 3, No. 1, intituled " An Ordinance for Establishing a Supreme Court," the •Governor of New Zealand is empowered, with theiadvice of the Executive Council, by Proclamation from time to time, to divide]the -Colony into Districts.for the purposes of the said recited Ordinance, and the limits of such Districts from time to time to alter, as occasion may require. And whereas the said Colony is now divided \into two Districts, called respectively the Northern District and the Southern District. \ And whereas by the recited Ordinance the vjvernor is also empowered to assign to each °Nuch Districts, a Judge or Judges, who shall hay» within the same all the powers and jurisdiction thereby given to the Supreme Court. Colonel Thomas Gore, Browne, Companion of the Bath, to be Her Majesty's Vice-Admiral ; Commissary, and Deputy in the office of Vice- ' Admiralty in the said Colony of New Zealand ; and territories thereon dependinD-, to take cognizance of and proceed in all °cases, civil and maritime, and in complaints, contracts, offences, or suspected-offences, crimes, pleas, debts, &c, within.the maritime jurisdiction of the Vice-Admira:ity of '- the said Colony of New ' Zealand and territories depending on the same, i —to hear and determine the same according to' ! the rights, statutes, laws, and ordinances and I customs anciently observed, with power of j deputing and surrogating in any place for the I premises one or more -Deputy; or Deputies. j Now I, the Governor in and over the Colony 1 of New Zealand; in pursuance of the authority i in-me vested: in that behalf, do hereby appoint ' HENRY BARNES GRESSON, ESQ., a Judge of the Supreme Court, my Deputy in and forithe Southern District of New Zealand, as^how constituted \ under land -for the -purposes of an.Ordinance intituled -" An Ordinance, for establishing,aiSupfeme-Court," ; with full power to take cognizance of and proceed in all matters, andto hear land determine the. same in mariner prescribed by.the.said recited Letters Patent.
