Markets.
OTAGO.
We take the latest commercial intelligence from Dunedin from the ' Colonist' of the 18th instant :—
The market is now fully stocked with Importations —the Southern Cross, the Bosworth, and the Gecrge Canning having each brought large shipments from London, and having arrived almost simultaneously, they have somewhat glutted the market. Colonial Produce—Sucli as tea and sugar, there is none, and arrivals from Australia are daily tooked for with great anxiety. Sawn Timber is in great demand, and is not to be had at any price; the saw mills being at work to orders which will keep them going for many months to come. The place is now completely at a stand-still for want of timber, and if the Gil Bias does not arrive from Auckland soon with supplies, balf the carpenters will have to apply themselves to something else. Surely such a state of things should induce parties on the spot to turn their attention to saw mills. The Gil Bias is expected to bring 200,000 feet of timber from Auckland, the pnce of which ought to have been expended on labour within the Province, possessing as it does such extensive forests of fine timber, with ample waterpower. It is hoped that some of the newcomers will devote their capital and labour to the matter.
Horses are in great demand. Importers would find a ready sale just now, at good prices, for several cargoes; both riding and draught horses being much sought after. Sheep—A few cargoes would be readily disposed of at about 245.
