NEW YEAR'S DAY, 1858. REGATTA AND ANNIVERSARY FETE, LYTTELTON. rpHE Committee beg- to announce that X the following Programme has been arranged for the observance of the ensuing New Year's Holiday in Lyttelton :— REGATTA. The Regatta will commence at 9 o'clock a.m., when the following races will take place:— I. —DECKED BOATS. A Sailing Match for all boats engaged in the carrying trade from this Port, not exceeding 20 tons. Entrance £1 Is., with a Purse of £ — added. II. —OPEN BOATS. A Sailing Match for all open boats between four and ten tons. Entrance 10s. 6d., with a purse of £•— added. lII.—FIVE-OAEED BOATS. A Rowing Match for five-oared boats, with steersman. Entrance 10s. 6d., with a purse added. IV. —EOUE-OAEED BOATS. A Rowing Match for all four-oared boats, with steersman. Entrance 7s. 6d,, with a purse added. N.B.—ln all the above races three boats to start, or no race. V. —DINGIES WITH PADDLES. A Paddling Match, in dingies not exceeding twelve feet in length, without steerer. Entrance 55., with a purse added. VI.—DINGIES WITH SCULLS. _ A Sculling Match for dingies of the same size as in the previous race. . Entrance 2s. 6d., with purse added. N.B.—ln the two last races four boats to. start, or no race. VII. —DTTCK HUNT. Dingy to be chased by two four-oared boats, without steersmen; bow-oars-men only to catch ; twenty minutes; six minutes start allowed. Entrance 2s. 6d., with purse added. No entries for any race to be made except by subscribers to the fund. Umfiee—Captain Sproul. Managing Committee—Captain Sproul and Messrs. Grubb and R. Allen. . RURAL SPORTS. Foot Races, Wheelbarrow Races, Jingling Matches, Sack Races, &c, Will take place during the day. Entrances and Prizes to be arranged on the ground. CHILDREN'S FETE. At the conclusion of the Flower Show, an Entertainment will be given to the Children of the town and vicinity, at the Town Hall. The Rural Sports, &c, will be under the management of Messrs. Davis, Warner. Mason and Genet. Subscriptions will be., received by the Committee,"and' at all the Hotels. WM. JOHNSTON, Honorary Secretary. HORSES FOR SALE. TO arrive in January, and will be offered for Sale, the whole of the Stud of the Undersigned, consisting of 70 THOROUGHBRED CART & OTHER STOCK OF ALL AGES, and got by the following Horses: —Gratis, Cap-a-pie, Donizetti, Dover, The Doctor, Langtonian, St. Aubin, Riddles worth, (all English thoroughbred Horses): Slender, Cannon Ball, Plover, Scratch, Ackbar, Snake, Coorarr.in, Glendon, Sir Hercules, Barber, St. George, Vaccination, Priam, Captain, Cripple, and Athelstane.
