To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sir,—We observe in your paper of the 19th ult. a letter from Messrs. Money Wigram and Sons, announcing their determination to commence sending vessels to New Zealand, anuV stating, as one of their chief reasons for doing so, the probability of the present supply of ships being likely soon to cease altogether. We beg to inform the public that there are no grounds whatever for this supposition, for Messrs. H. H. Willis & Co., whose names are so intimately associated with the shipping trade qf this colony, are fully prepared to keep pace with its progress, and to carry on their operations more vigorously than ever. With this view, their more recent ships have been of the first class, and their rates qf passage, and general arrangements for the voyage, have always given the greatest satisfaction. It is true that comparatively few of their vessels have visited this Port, but this is entirely owing to the numerous ships despatched hither by the Association ; when the operations of the latter are brought to, a close, Messrs. Willis & Co. will send ships to Canterbury direct, whenever sufficient inducement offers. - . As the Representatives of Messrs. Willis & Co. in this settlement, and in justice to them, we have felt bound to make these remarks, and also to|dispel any doubts likely to arise in the public mind, from a perusal of Messrs. Wigram and Sons' letter, as to the continuation of the supply of ships to New Zealand. We are, Sir, your obedient Servants, Longden & Le Chen. lyttelton, March 3, 1853.
