CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times.

Sir, —To my surprise this morning, I was told that my name had appeared amongst some others, of gentlemen who had offered themselves as candidates for seats in the Council of Canterbury Land-purchasers. My name, I beg leave to state, was put downin that list without my knowledge or consent, in fact, in opposition to my wishes, having, when applied to to become a member, declined that honour.

By inserting the above in ,your valuable journal you will oblige Your most obedient and humble Servant, Thomas Hanmer,

To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times.

Sir, —I have this evening been informed that my name has been appended to a placard posted in Lyttelton, bearing reference to the election of a council of the Society of Landowners in the Canterbury District. The use of my name is a gross moral forgery. I cannot account for the singular presumption which lias led any individual to conclude that supposed or imputed opinions could constitute an autograph ; and I should be glad to inspect the characters which supplied the elements of my name for the compositor. I beg to state through your paper, that so far from being a candidate for any legislative or quasilegislative office, I have not even a vote —bein^ neither a member of the " Canterbury Society of JLandpurchasers," nor of any Society or Club in New Zealand. I am, Sir, Yours, &c. Theodore Williams.
