JOURNAL OF THE WEEK.

The present week commenced with holiday making in rare style, in the shape of a pic-nic party on Monday last at Rhodes' Bay, given by Mr. Templar and our other friends from New South Wales, to a.select number of the Canterbury Colonists. We regret that press of matter prevents our giving a detailed account of the proceedings of the day. We understand that a large punt has been launched, and is ready to ferry cattle over the Heathcote. The road operations on the plains are progressing satisfactorily. A bridge has been completed over the swamp at liiccarton. The Church at Christchurch is roofed, and otherwise completed on the outside. Arrangements have been made between the Association and the settlers at Akaroa, for the establishment of a school there, and a schoolmaster has already proceeded thither. We must not omit to record an accident which happened during the past week to Mr. Morrison, Master of the " William and John," cutter, who fell from a rock at Pigeon Bay, on Monday last, and is still, we believe, insensible from the shock.
