The Neiv Zealand Government Gazette contains the following::—" Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, Feb. 12, 1851. His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has been pleased to appoint the undermentioned gentlemen to be magistrates of the Province of New Munster : William Guise Brittan, Edward Robert Ward, John Charles Watts Russell, Henry Phillips, Esquires, of Lyttelton, Port Victoria ; and J.ohn Johnston, Esquire, of Wellington." " Lyttelton, Jan. 27th, 1851. I hereby certify, that Charles Barker, Esquire, of this place, has duly submitted'to me his license from the Apothecaries' Hall, London, and his diploma as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, and is therefore a legally qualified Medical Practitioner under Ordinance, No. 2, of Session 1849, and entitled to have a notification of the same inserted in the Government Gazette, upon payment of the sum of ss. to the Colonial Treasurer. John Robert Godley, resident magistrate. We hare only space to notice the appearance of a new Journal at Otago, under the name of the l> Otago Witness."
