APPOINTMENT OF SCHOOL TEACHERS.

The question of the appointment of teachers came before last week's meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute. The President (Mr A. C. Blake), on behalf of the committee of management, moved :—" That this branch requests the Minister of Education to enforce on otber boards the same " open door' polioy as is practise d by the Wellington and Hawke's Boards in giving outside teachers equal opportunities with their own in applying for positions." The motion was carried unanimously (says the Wellington Post), atfd president and secretary were instructed to draft a letter to the Dunedin branob of the institute to refute certain statements that have been made in Dunedin papers regarding the method of appointment adopied by the Wellington Edu oation Board. It was stated that the members of tha Dunedin branob who made the statements showed that they did not understand the method adopted in the Wellington district. The chairman pointed out that official statistics showed that Wellington easily led in the matter of outside appointments made since June 1.
