A supplementary list to tbs roll of those returning by the transport Obupra gives the name of Private John Shaw, who enlisted from this dig* triot, and left with the 10 th Reinforcements. The Rev. R. C. Hunter conducted, his farewell services in the district on Sunday. At St. Andrews in the morning he made brief reference to his ministrations in the Wakatipu and to his departure. Mr and Mrs Hunter leave Queenstown on Friday morning en route to Scotland.—Mail. We understand that Mr G. F. Johns* ton, of Lamsden, will be a candidate for the seat on the Southland Eduoa* tion Board rendered facant by the death of Mr John Findlay. Mr Johnston is well and favourably known in this district, and, if elected, should prove a good representative on the Board for this portion of the Southland district. . • ~w •• The Diocesan Board of Nominators, Dunedin, have forwarded to the nominators of the pariah of the Wakatipu the name of the Rev. R. de Lambert, lately manager and organising secretary of the Anglican Boys’ Memorial Home at Vauxhal’, Dunedin, for nomination to the cure of the parish of Wakatipu, rendered vacant by the resignation of the Rev. R. G. Coats. Mail. It is stated that Mr R. B. Ross will be a candidate for the Pabiatua seat at the General Election. It is understood (says the Wairarapa Age) that Mr G. H. Smith does nor intend offering himself for re-election.

The following, from the Daily Times, refers to an old Arrowtown boy, Mr Thomas Reid, son of Mr James Reid, Arrowtown :—“ A number of South Dunedin business men and a few friends met in Mr W. Elliot's residence on Monday evening of last week, to say good-bye to Mr T Reid, who has been postmaster at South Dunedin for the last six and a half years, and has been promoted to Lawrence. Mr P. Johnston, in handing Mr Reid a case of Loewe pipes, suitably inscribed, and a small monetary present for Master Massey Reid, said that they could not let Mr Reid go away without giving him some small token of appreciation. Mr Reid, whilst never forgetting hia duties to the department, always tried to assist the public. Messrs Sinclair and Hastings also congratulated Mr Reid upon the way in which the South Dunedin office has been conducted under his charge. The health of Me Reid was then drunk with musical honours. Miss Gladys Elliot acted as accompanist.”
