LAKE COUNTY HOSPITAL.
MATERNITY WARD SUGGESTED.
At the meeting of the Lake County Council last Wednesday the question of a maternity ward at the Lake County Hospital was discussed. Cr Cockburn,, who is the district representative on the Southland Hospital and Cnari table Aid Board, said the Board were prepared to consider the establishment of a special ward at the Lake County Council for the reception of maternity cases. Accommodation would be provided for four* beds; and a fully qualified nurse. A district nurse had been suggested as an alternative but he was of opinion that the maternity ward was a much better idea and would prove a boon to a disvrht »«- »iio and scatt?.-*.! as was Lake County:.' It would. bring the local hospital up to date and more into line with present day requirements. In the short discussion that followed councillors expressed "themselves as strongly in favour of the project, and a resolution was framed giving the Council's support to Mr Oockburn„ as district representative on the Southland hospital and C. A. Board* in the matter and urging him to use his best endeavours to get a maternity ward established at the Lake County Hospital.
