Lake County Press. PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY

Arrowtown, August 30, 1917. THE LIBERTY LOAN.

The time within which applications for War Loan Certificates may be

made eloses on Monday, the 3rd September. Applications are received at any postal money-order office, by the banks, and by registered eharebrpbers. The Finance Minister, in one of his public announecements, says: " The more money you lend the sooner the war will end." Which is .very true. The Minister hopes that no one will be deterred from subscribing to the loan on account of the smallness of the sum he is able to advance. The very small sums, will mount up to a big total. Sir Joseph says: "I am relying on every man, woman, and child : to do their best." We hope he will ■ not be disappointed. Sir Joseph has made it possible, even easy, for all' to subscribe. Many people old and youDg arc taking all or a portion of i small savings out of the post office savings bank to put it into the loan, and many are even borrowing money to buy a certificate. Good interest is offered on the money subscribed, but the great incentive to contribute as much as possible is that the money is urgently needed to feed and clothe our brave soldiers and keep them supplied with munitions. Who, then, who has the means can refuse to help ? We heard the other day of a man of con- | siderabie means who refuses to sub-J Bcribe anything to the loan. We pray that he and all such persons may lose every penny they posses 3. While so many thousands of the bravest and noblest of our younger men are euduring all the hardships of war, while so many thousands of them are dying in defence of our liberties, the man of means who refuses to supply them with so much as a crust is an even more despicable wretch than Nabal or Dives. In future years, after the Allies have gloriously triumphed in this great struggle for freedom and justice and humanity, subscribers to the Liberty Loaa will always have the satisfaction of knowing that they did their bit to achieve that triumph. We hope that before next Monday the men and women and the boys and girls of the Lake County will have nobly done I their duty in this important matter.

The trust tha'. s given thee guard, and to thyself be just.
