VALEDICTORY SOCIAL.

Departing: Soldiers Entertained. Our Gibbston correspondent writes : —A farewell social was tendered to Privates James Kinross and Antonio Resta (wbo were home on final leave) by the residents of Gibbston on Monday evening last. The function, which was held in the schoolhouse, was largely attended. During the evening ■>-_ Mr J. Leslie, on behalf of the residents, presented each of the departing soldiers with luminous wristlet watches, suitably inscribed. Both recipients thanked the company for the presents. Songs were contributed by Mrs Scott, Misses Enright and Kinross, and Mr Allot. Mrs Vidal played the accompaniments. The music for the dance was supplied by several local residents. A plentiful supply of refreshments was provided by the ladies of Gibbston. The singing of the National Anthem and “ Auld Lang Syne ” terminated a most enjoyable evening.
