FARMERS’ COLUMN.

Gore Horse Bazaar. Wright, Stephenson and Co., tepurt as follows ;

Wo held our usual weekly sale of horses in the Gore Horse Bazaar on Saturday before a moderate attendance of farmers, contractors, and the general public. The entry was only small and there was nothing of special quality forward. However, we placed the bulk of the entry at satisfactory

prices. During the week wo have had enquiries for horses suitable for the Australian market, and we would be pleased to receive particulars of any that are for sale. The demand still continues good 'for all young draught marcs and geldings suitable to golnto immediate work, and good spring carters and harness horses are realising good prices.

Weekly Market Report. Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co., auctioneers, wool, grain, produce, and commission agents, report (wholesale) for the week as under. All quotations are subject to market lluctuations

Wheat, The market is linn, Best velvet and Tuscan 3/8 to 3/0, medium B/G to 3/7, fowl wheat 3/- to 3/2 (sacks extra). Oats. —Demand keen. Milling ‘2s !)d to 2s 10(1, bright short feed 2s 8d to 2s !)d, medium and inferior 2s -Id to 2s 7d. Barley.—We have a good, demand for prime malting samples. Rabbitskins.—Sales every week. Demand keen and prices firm. Suckers and runners 4d to sd, summers (id to !)d, autumns lid to 15d per lb, incomings 15d to 17d, winters Hid to 20d. selected docs 2ld to 23d.

Sheepskins.—Sales weekly. The demand is good, but prices are without alteration. We quote: Pelts Is Od to 2s (id, crossbred 3s to 5s 3d, extra 5/0 tola (is (id, merino 2s Od to 4s, extra 4g (id to ss,

Eggs. —Considerable quantities have been forward this weak. The market is now steady and free sales are taking place at for ordinary cased, lid to Is for guaranteed stamped. Butter.—All classes are extremely scarce. We quote—First quality storekeepers poaud pats (separator) Is to 3/1, ordinary pals lOd to lid. The demand is good Poultry—Good demand for well-conditioned birds. Cock turkeys 7d lb, hens fid, ducks (plump) 4/6 per pair, young roosters 4s, hens 3/fi per pair. We supply crates on application. Honey. —.Consignments of good bright clover readily saleable at 4d per lb, (ilb pats attractively got up 34 to 3s 3d, lbs os to 5s fid, ‘Jibs 7s fid to Bs. Cheese. Very scarce. Well matured Akaroa up to 6Ad, loaf up to Gjd. Bacon—Medium weights C£d per lb, quality guaranteed ; hams 7Jd. Pigs.—Excellent demand for good baconers (140 to 170’s) 4£d to per lb, heavier weights at relatively lower rates, butcher's pigs (100’s to 130’s) 4Jd per lb. Chaff—The demand is very quiet, and there is little margin for shipping at present in competition with Northern markets, which are lower in values. We quote—Prime quality black oat sheaf at £4 os per ton, white oat up to £4 2s fid, medium quality £3 15s ton.

Hay.—Prime clover £4 per ton. Straw.—We have handled fully 100 tons of wheaten this week. To-day’s value—wheatcu 32/fi ton, oaten 45/- to 47/fi. Pollard 115s, bran 955. Swedes 30s to 32s fid bagged, loose 25s ton. Carrots—Better demand. 40s to 455,

Oats—Considerable business has been passing this week. We are buyers on trucks country stations-Qarton’s, sparrowbills 2/5, blacks 2/5, net cash on trucks, sacks extra. Fowl Wheat—Very scarce, 3/4 to 3/6 per bushel, broken 3/3. Maize—3/4 for prime lines.

Potatoes.—Market very depressed. All markets are fully stocked at present. There is absolutely no enquiries from the North; advice from Auckland states that new potatoes arc already making great headway, and the crops are expected to be iu fully a month earlier than usual. Wo quote—Prime carefully graded Derwents up to 70s, Up-to-datea 57/6 to 62/6. Wo are prepared to offer full market rates on trucks iu the country to those desirous of selling. Wo advise, however, that all potatoes be pat in new sacks. Vegetables of all kinds are scarce. Cauliflowers 7s to 10s per dozen. Cabbages—6s 6d per dozen. Vegetable Marrows, 6s to 7s per sack. Pumpkins—4s 6d to 5s 6d per sack. Apples.—Locals, good demand, choice 2sd lb, medium 2.Jd lb, dessert sorts 7s to 8s case. Hobart apples -Chdioest SPM’s 9s 6d to 10s case, medium 9s. French crabs 8s 9d to 9s 3d case, New York Pippins 9s case. Pears—Cooking,2£d lb, Winter Nolis 3jd to 4d lb, Melbourne, Winter Nells 11s to 12s case. Bananas—We quote ripe fruit 9s per case. Island oranges —Scarce ; 12s to 13s.

Mandarins—Choice Sydney 10s to 12s pa gin case.
