MINING NEWS.
The Central Otago Miners' Association have received the first payment from the Mines Department of the subsidy granted to Mr R. Symes, of Bald Hill Flat, for prospecting work on the Old Man Range. The Mount Lyell returns from July 13 to August 9 (inclusive) show that 25,371 tons of ore were treated, and also 58 tons of purchased ore. The converters produced : —Copper, 511 tons ; silver, 39,0320z ; gold, 7710z.
Dredging returns: Hartley and Riley, 84oz; Sailor's Bend, 650z; Rise and Shine No. 1, 630z; 909, 620z; Manuherikia, 58oz; Otago, 530z; Electric No. 1, 50oz; Lady Roxburgh, 360z ; Golden Bed, 38oz; Masterton, 30oz ; Rising Sun, 28oz ; Sandy Point, 250z; Golden Sun, 19oz ; Waikaka United No. 1, 16oz ; Waikaka United No. 2, 14oz ; Koputai, 12oz ; Mystery Flat, lOoz ; Olrig, lOoz ; Central Charlton, 9oz; Waikaia, 9oz.
