W.M.R. BALL.

The eleventh annual ball of the Wakatipu Mounted Rifles was held in the Garrison Hall, Arrowtown, on Friday evening last. Although the attendance was not up to last year's, still the gathering was a very representative one of the district, Queenstown, particularly, being well represented. Some 50 couples took part in the grand march, the various movements of which were successfully carried out under the direction of the Master of Ceremonies, Mr W. Campbell. The hall was prettily decorated with flags, evergreens, etc., while the dresses worn by the ladies were handsome and costly and added much to the brightness of the scene. The committee and the energetic secretary, Mr W. Campbell, deserve every credit for the excellent arrangements made. The ball was, in every way, a highly successful event, and all present spent a happy time. The supper was served in a large marquee and was under the management of Mesdames Home, Soutter, and Jenkins. The tables were nicely laid out and contained choice delicacies of every description. First-class music was supplied by Messrs Hillman, (violin, Aldridge t(cornet), and Miss Gudgeon (piano) As to the belle ? Well, it is not safe to venture an opinion. We are indebted to a lady contributor for a description of some of the dresses worn.
