SAD END.
At the inquest on the body of Mary Stevenson, held at Makotuku on Saturday, the verdict returned read that death was due to poison by self-ad* ministration while in a state of extreme mental depression. The deceased proceeded to Dannevirke on Thursday last and purchased a box of ‘‘ rough on rats.” She took a considerable quantity before leaving by the exj press train for home. On her arrival at Makotuku she was taken very ill, and medical aid was called in, but she died the same night. It appears that she had been very depressed for soma weeks. She leaves eight children, the youngest being only nine months old.
