From what we can glean it appears that a storekeeper named O'Donnell was robbed of about .£1)0 worth of gold, and the alleged thief was last seen going in the direction of Thomson's Corgo. Messrs Sirgood Sou and Ewen have a change in advt in this issue. Farmers and others would do well to peruse the advt, and then call upon their storekeeper, and purchase a pair of Stockman Balmoral boots. The " Stockman" is a special damp resisting boit, and who would, we ask, have wet feet when it cau be avoided. A very enjoyable social ia aid of tho Cricket Club funds, was held in the Atheneum Hall on Friday evening last.. Some BO or 40 couples were present and tho dance proved most enjoyable. Mr S. McSkirnmiug, treasurer of the. Oiub, had the carrying out of tho arrangements, and is deserving of the Club's best thanks. He also acted as j M.C. The ladies kindly supplied re-, freshraents, while first-class music was supplied by Mr A. Grant, assisted by a numlo' of ladies. A keturn of the expenses of candidates at last election has been presented to Parliament. Among the returns are the following:—Tuapeka— Mr Bonnet £B3, Mr Gilkison £65; Ciutha—Mr Malcolm £OO, Mr Stewart £7d, Mr Boy £80; Mataura—Hon. R. McNab £SO, Mr MacGibboa £69 ; Wakatipu—Mr Eraser £lO6, Mr GilI'edder £12.5 ; Wallace—Mr Thomson £2l, Mr Mucpherson £72 ; Invercargill —Mr Hanan £53, Mr Raymond £94, Mr Morris £62 ; Awarua—Sir Joseph Ward £57, Mr Wooduorth £lO. The election expenses of the late Mr Seddon have been returned at £2 18s sd. and those of his opponent (Mr Harry Cowan) at 2s lOd—the lowest on record.

There was a good attendance at the ovecu'ive meeting of the Lake County A. and P Society on Saturday afternoon last, Mr It M. Pateraon presided. A letter was received from the Department of Agriculture saying a thoroughbred stallion could not he sent to the district this season. Mr J. J. Cotter wrote resigning his position as secretary of the Society, as he was leaving the district, lie wished the Society years of success and progress. Members present expressed their groat regret at losing the services of MrCotter, and the Chairman aud Messrs W. M'Kibbiu and J. Cockburn referred to the good work done by Mr Cotter as secretary. His efforts went far to make the shows the great success they were. Mr Cotter suitably replied. Mr P. M. Tobiu was unanimously elected secretary. The date of the show was, fixed for Friday, the 7th December.
