WHY HE RAN.
At the battle of Shiloh a private who had never been under fire before became terror-striken at the third volley, and, seeing his comrades falling around him, threw down his gun and started full speed for the rear. General Sherman, seeing him, shouted out :
"What are you running for?" And the terrified man, without stopping, yelled back : "Because I can't fly,."-
