SLY GROG-SELLING IN DUNEDIN.
Fines Of £SO And £lO. At the Police Court on Friday, Alice Blair, residing in Cumberland street, in the centre of tho city, was charged with sly grog-selling. Evidence was givon by
two constables, who joined the force on the first of the month, that they went to her house on Sunday and were supplied with a bottle of beer, for winch they paid 3s. When leaving they asked for another bjttle to take away with them, and this was .supplied at the same price. Mr 0, C. Graham, S.M., imposed a tine of £SO, and 7s costs, and on a second charge, arising out of a similar transaction on the following day, a fine of £lO and costs was indicted. Sorgt. King said that the woman had been carrying on business for years. Thy magistrate remarked that this and other cases showed that hotel-keepers were not altogether responsible. for Sunday drunkenness.
