OBITUARY.

Scarcely a week passes by but what it is. our sad duty to record tho death of -a district resident or of one who at one time or other resided amongst us. Very general regret will be expressed for the family—nay orphans—of the late Mrs Rattigan. Deceased. lady passed away at her homo, King Street, Dunedin, on Friday last. Quite recently Mrs Rattigan paid a visit to Arrowtown for her health's sake and to see old friends. Unfortunately the disease from which she was suffering—diabetes—had gained too great a hold, and she became weaker and weaker until death terminated a lingering and trying illness. The late M rs Rattigan bore her sufferings with fortitude and her only desire was that she might be spared to her children. Her remains were interred in tho Northern Cemetery, Dunedin, on Sunday when n, large number of old Arrowites attended to pay the last tribute of respect. In losing Mr White the department haß lost a faithful and conscientious officer, who was admired and respected for his genial and sterling The flags in town were hoisted half-mast high on receipt of the sad news, and all business places closed for the funeral.
