STRANGE COURT INCIDENT.

The trial c! Walter Penny, J-i:jws Cobbing, and Albert Tippet, t'mr larceny of tin ore irom the Mount Kischwfl Compauy, was concluded ut Launceston last week. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty of receiving, and each accused was sentenced to five year.. imprisonment A somewhat sensational incident occurred at the close of the trial. When asked what was the result of their two hours' deliberation, the foreman replied "Not guilty." The spectators raised a loud cheer. The demonstration was instantly suppressed, and Mr Justice Clark then proceeded to order the discharge of the prisoners, when the foreman interposed. and said that the jury had found accused not guilty of the charge of stealing tin, but guilty of receiving it. For some seconds there was complete silence in the Court, th« three men in the dock and the majority of the spectators being apparently unable to grasp the full significance of the jury's finding. After asking the prisoners whether they had anything to say, His Honor passed sentence.
