VITAL STATISTICS.
The following arc the vital statistics of the colony for August: Auckland and suburbs 49,829 155 67 1.34 Wellington and suburbs 49,344 105 56 0.95 Christchurch ami suburbs 44,818 86 83 1.85 Timaru 6.424 9 5 0.78 Oiimam Invercargill 6,215 14 10 1.61 Dunedin and suburbs 52,390 109 65 1.24 The total births in the four principal boroughs amounted to 453, as against 525 in July, ;i decrease of 70. The deaths m August, were 261. an increase of 37 on the number in July. Of the total deaths males contributed 153 and females 108. Fifty-four "t the deaths were of children under live years of age. being 20.69 per cent, of the whole number. Forty of these were under one year of age. There were 85 deaths of persons of 65 vears and upwards. Ten men (65. 69, 69. 70, 71, 72. 74, 75. 75, 84), and 10 women <67. 72. 74. 75, 78, 82. 82. 82. 83. 91 1 died at Auckland: 8 men (66, 71. 72. 72. 77. 77, 78. 93). and 4 women (66. 7], 75. 82) at Wellington: 16 men (70, 71, 71. 71. 72. 72. 75. 73, 74. 75, 75. 77. 78. 78 83, 84), and 18 women (65. 65. 66, 66, 66, 68, 69,' 69, 71. 79, 80. 81. 82, 87, 92, 92, 97 104) at, Christchurch: and 16 men >66, 68. 68’. 68. 71. 72. 72, 72, 74, 75. 76. 77. 79. 81. 81. 84). and 3 women 1 77, 79, 82) at Dunedin.
