A new clause was embodied in the Arbitration Bill providing for a line not exceeding £I.OOO. or imprisonment not exceeding six months, to any person who. whether he belonged to a union or Jiot, participated deliberately in a strike or lockout, either before or after the dispute could be referred to the Court of Arbitration or daring the hearing before the Court; also fixing high monetary penalties for the nonobservance or breaches of the Court’s orders and awards.

In the Legislative Council there was awarm debate on the Woman's Franchise Bill. Mr Want carried an amendment by T-J to 16 eliminating the clause preventing women from sitting in Parliament, after Mr Suttor, the (loveninuent representative, had announced that if the Council decided that tho clause should be eliminated the novornmont would still stick to the Bill.
