Superstition can be carried to excess. Not long ;igo a well-known merchant interviewed a traveller with a view to engaging him. Everything seemed satisfactory, and the negotiations were on the point of conclusion when the man's face suddenly changed, and he said that he was very sorry, but he could not possibly accept the post. His would-be employer, somewhat surprised, asked him what his reasons might be for so sudden a change, and the man replied that he had just discovered that the premises occupied by the merchant were numbered 6 and 7, and that 6 and 7 made 13!
