BANNOCKBURN.
(LAKE COUNTY PRESS CORRESPONDENT.) During the past forty-eight hours we have had several unsuccessful attempts at rain. The hill-tops ail round, though, are covered with a light sprinkling of snow. The wind is almost wintry in its coldness. I suppose this is the usual thing at this time of the year. I have to record the death of Mr William Grow, a young man widely esteemed in this district. He died at Frank ton Hospital of consumption. His illness was induced, I am told, by the common enough practice of taking no notice of a common cold. Such an ending to a cold should warn all young people that it is not foolish to take care of a cold. It is an easy stage from cold to inflammation of the lungs and a still easier step to consumption. The funeral took place this afternoon. A good number of friends and relatives of the deceased attended and a most impressive service was rendered by the Rev. Mr Hosking assisted by the Rev. Mr Tait. I notice that the Arrow Cricket Club has held its ai nual meeting. The local club will hold its meeting one evening this week. I hope a match will be arranged with the Arrow club as soon as possible. Sept. 16, 1901.
