*■ The visitors from New Smith Wales, played their first game on Saturday against a Wellington team and were beaten, after an exciting game, by 17 to 1(5. There was an attendance of nearly 5000, and, the spectators were greatly pleased with the fast play and free scoring. Wellington had the advantage of a strong wind in the first spell and put up 11 points against 3. On changing ends the Welshmen rushed the game and quickly scored a try and a goal from a mark. The Wellington men expected to be easily beaten, but played an excellent forward game, keeping the ball at the toe. Each side scored alternately, and the game was in doubt to the l ist minute, as just before time was called the visitors very neatly scored try, and immediately artei-w.-uds lu<W easy chance at goal from a mark. W ham, who had already kicked one goal, this time failed .and the bell rang immediately. Alanson scored three of Wellington's tries and Wallaca kicked a splendid goal from a difficult angle. The visitors are a light and active team, quick to take advantage of openings, but not strong in defence.
