A GERMAN CABLE.
MELBOURNE, August 9. Mr Audley Coote, acting on behalf of a German company, has applied to the Federal Postmaster for permission to lay a cable from German New Guinea to Queensland. No details are given, but it is understood that it is hoped to have a landing-place in British New Guinea.
