PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED.

The New Zealand Magazine for August is to hand. It is brimful of interesting matter. The columns devoted to men " in the public eye " form valuable records, and each month are an important part of the magazine. The second and concluding article on " The Moon " is written in an interesting manner by Mr A. D. Austin, M.1.0.E., F.R.A.S., and the illustrations are very effective. An important series of papers by four writers on the subject of money has been arranged for and the first two are well worth reading. The writers are in general agreement that the proper method of regulating the supply of money or currency is to place it entirely under State control. Mr H. I. Westmacott contributes an extremely interesting article on " the handwriting of wellknown men," taking for his examples the writing of the Premier, Oapt. Russell, His Honour Justice Oonolly, Oolonel R. H. Davis, Mr Scobie Mackenzie and others. A capital and entertaining article is given by A. H. Messenger who deals with old-timj Maori woodcraft, and tells how the Maori secured his game in the early days, literary chat, " round the world," an illustrated article on grand opera in New Zealand, and a number of short stories complete the month's fare, which should give the greatest satisfaction toreaders. " Form at a Glance," Messrs Barnett and Grant's little note-book and sporting pamphlet is received with thanks. It ii a most useful publication to sportin" men, containing information, as it does, highly interesting to the racing fraternity. Stone's useful A.DO. Guide for
